The 2012 presidential campaign season is off to a running start and it is already clear that voters will be keenly focused on one thing—who will be the best candidate to restore traditional avenues into a strong middle class through widely accessible employment and educational opportunities. After a season of various “occupy” protests across the country, Americans have expressed in no uncertain terms that they will no longer accept the growing income inequality that characterized the last decade. But as the 2012 Equality Index shows, the pursuit of equal opportunity has long been and continues to be a priority for Americans of color.
