George H. Lambert Jr. was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Washington Urban League, Inc. in 2014.

Mr. Lambert’s background spans careers in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. In the for-profit arena, he worked as a public affairs senior executive, spearheading strategic alliance initiatives on behalf of Fortune 50 telecommunications clients.

In the non-profit arena, he served as Senior Director for Resource Development Operations with United Way of the National Capital Area. His Urban League experience also includes serving as the first President and Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Virginia Urban League and as a Regional Consultant for the National Urban League (NUL). He is a member of the NUL Association of Executives, Academy of Fellows, and also previously served on the Executive Committee of the Association of Executives. His experience in the non-profit arena has been vast and covers almost all aspects of non-profit management.

As one of the oldest civil rights organizations in America with a nationwide network of affiliates, including in the District of Columbia, the National Urban League is dedicated to economic empowerment and elevating the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities. The Greater Washington Urban League, Inc. is a flagship affiliate of the National Urban League.

Under the leadership of Mr. Lambert, the Greater Washington Urban League, Inc. launched a Small Business Entrepreneurship Center. The goal of the Entrepreneurship Center is to enable minority entrepreneurs to take advantage of new business opportunities.

Mr. Lambert has served as a volunteer on numerous boards and commissions and continues his involvement in a broad range of issues consistent with his interests and views.

Born in Washington, D.C., Mr. Lambert received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Studies from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Lambert is married to the former Bernadette Curtis. He is the proud father of five lovely young adults and six grandchildren. He is also an ordained Deacon and a member of the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
